Hi there,
I just sent you today's Carry-On Commander story, and then realized I forgot to give you something that goes with it.
I made a Carry-On Commander Word Search with 10 travel words hidden inside. And I will warn you, it looked ridiculously easy when I made it. Then I tried to find the words myself. 😂
So if you have a few minutes and feel like testing your Carry-On Commander skills, here you go:
No signup, no hoops. You're already here. Just a little Sunday fun from me to you.
And if you haven't read today's Carry-On Commander story yet, there's still a secret hiding near the end that will earn you 2 extra entries in the T-shirt giveaway.
Have fun!
Tami

Hi there,
There is a moment, usually a few days before a trip, when a perfectly reasonable woman stands over an open suitcase and starts negotiating with her clothes. Are you really worth carrying across Italy? The Carry-On Commander doesn't have this problem. She has rules.
Everything has to earn its place. Shoes have to prove their loyalty, tops need to cooperate with multiple bottoms, and those black pants that have already been to Paris, Rome and Lisbon are probably going again. Somewhere along the way, she figured out that the real luxury isn't having everything she might need. It's being able to step off the plane and leave the airport, change trains without staging a luggage relocation project, or walk six blocks to the hotel because the weather is beautiful.
And maybe that's why experienced travelers often become better editors. The less energy you spend managing your belongings, the more freedom you have for the reason you came in the first place: the places, the meals, the unexpected detours and the stories you bring home.
If any of this sounds suspiciously familiar, today's story may be about you.
I've also hidden a secret code near the end of the story. If you're playing our Win a Travel Tee giveaway, bring the code back to the game and you'll earn 2 bonus entries.
You're already on my email list, so you're already in the pool for the T-shirt drawing. The game is simply a way to earn extra chances if you feel like playing along, and I'll be adding more little opportunities to earn bonus entries as we go.
Enjoy the story. And yes, wearing the same black pants tomorrow is still allowed.

The Honorary Italian

Hi there,
Some travelers come home from Italy with photographs and a few souvenirs. Others come home with a moka pot, strong opinions about tomatoes, a favorite cafĂ© they still talk about, and a suspicious habit of checking airfare back to Rome. Those are the Honorary Italians. Claire and Tom are both American, and both insist they should probably go somewhere new next time. Spain sounds wonderful. Portugal too. Greece is definitely on the list. And yet, somehow, Italy keeps winning. Claire is the sentimental one. She saves cafĂ© receipts, remembers exactly where they ate “that pasta,” and keeps photographs of laundry hanging between old buildings because she thinks even the laundry is beautiful there. Tom is more subtle. He claims he is simply practical, while somehow knowing which train connection is easiest, where to get decent coffee near the station, and which Italian town they “probably should” visit next. Claire romanticizes Italy. Tom operationalizes it. Neither of them is fooling anyone. On their fourth trip, they return to a small Tuscan town they visited two years earlier. There is no famous landmark they need to see. No checklist. What they really want is surprisingly ordinary: the cafĂ© they remember, the streets they recognize, the restaurant table with the good evening light. Then Lucia, the woman behind the cafĂ© counter, looks up and says, “Claire!” She turns to Tom and adds, “And Tom. No sugar.” That tiny moment means more to them than another photograph in front of a monument ever could. They have not just returned to see Italy again. They have returned to a place that remembers them. That is when a destination starts becoming something more than a destination. Maybe you know someone like Claire or Tom. Maybe it is your spouse, your sister, your best friend, or the couple who always seems to be either just back from Italy or quietly planning the next trip. Or maybe it is you. Maybe you have your own cafĂ©, your own favorite neighborhood, your own meal that no restaurant at home has ever quite recreated. Maybe you already know the pleasure of going back to a place instead of always looking for somewhere new. I wrote the full story of Claire and Tom because I have a feeling a few of you will recognize yourselves in it. Read The Honorary Italian → And if someone came to mind while you were reading this, send it to them and ask one question: Do you recognize yourself? Tami Roberts Prime Tee Supply P.S. I also pulled together a few shirts for the Honorary Italian in your life, including the one who insists they are absolutely going somewhere new next year. We’ll see.
